| | 7 | A designer sued Melanie Griffith for allegedly refusing to pay nearly $26,000 for dressing the actress and her daughters for the Golden Globes Awards and reneging on a promise to mention his name on the red carpet. In the lawsuit filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, Niklas J. Palm claimed he designed dresses for Griffith and her daughters Dakota Johnson and Stella Banderas to wear to the January event. Palm said he submitted a $25,960 bill Jan. 16 and Griffith was overdue in making any payments. He also claimed Griffith and her daughters backed out of their promise to mention his name to reporters. He also names Griffith's husband, Antonio Banderas and their production companies as defendants.
| | 5 | Antonio Banderas has signed on to star as Spanish conqueror Hernan Cortes in a new big-budget historical epic called 'Conquistador', the industry press said. The movie, which will trace the exploits of 16th century explorer, will reportedly be armed with the biggest ever production budget accorded a Spanish-language film, one worth more than $40-million. The film, to be directed by Brazilian Andrucha Waddington, is tentatively scheduled to begin filming in September in Spain and Mexico, Daily Variety and the Hollywood Reporter said. It tells the story of Cortes' internal and external struggles as he and a small band of soldiers arrive in the New World — modern-day Mexico — and clash with the Aztec empire. The movie will be based on a screenplay by Nicholas Kazan and some scenes will be shot in Mayan and Nahuatl, languages of the Aztecs.
