Halle Berry was born on August 14, 1966 in Cleveland, Ohio and is biracial, with a white English-born mother, Judith Ann Hawkins, and a black American father, Jerome Berry. Halle first came into the spotlight at 17 years old when she won the Miss Teen All-American Pageant in 1985. It eventually led to her first weekly TV series, 1989's "Living Dolls" (1989). Her big screen breakthrough was in Jungle Fever (1991). The following year she played as an actress 'Dorothy Dandridge' in Introducing Dorothy Dandridge (1999), for which she won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Movie/Mini-Series. In 2000, she received box office success in X-Men (2000) and again in the more successful X2: X-Men United (2003). She won the best actress Oscar in 2002 for Monster's Ball, becoming the first African American woman to win this award. Halle has been married twice. Her first marriage in 1992 - 1996 to baseball player David Justice. Her second marriage in 2001 - 2003 to musician Eric Benét, leaving her to her step-daughter India whom she legally adopted. She has diabetes and is deaf in one ear.
