Alice Cooper (born Vincent Damon Furnier, February 4, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan, USA), is a heavy metal singer and musician. He is best known for his stage performances, which are often theatrical and violent, utilizing make-up, electric chairs, guillotines, decapitated human heads, fake blood, and boa constrictors. At 17, he joined a rock band called Alice Cooper. The band consisted of guitarist Mike Bruce, guitarist Glen Buxton, bassist Dennis Dunaway, and drummer Neal Smith. The band got their first big break playing at the Wiskey - a - GoGo in L.A. one night when Frank Zappa discovered them and signed them to an album deal in 1969. They were later signed by Warner Bros. and came out with their first major album, "Love It to Death" in 1971.
The band broke up in 1975 and a court dispute broke out over who would be able to continue using the Alice Cooper name, the band or the man who played Alice. Vincent ended the dispute by having his name legally changed to Alice Cooper, so the band rocked on as the Billion Dollar Babies. Furnier, of French ancestry, born in Detroit and heavily influenced by The Beatles, formed a number of rock bands in the 1960s, including the Earwigs, The Spiders, and The Nazz. Alice married Sheryl Cooper (3 March 1976-present). They have 3 children.
