Nick Carter slashed into super-stardom in 1992, when the hit boy band group, Backstreet Boys, took over pop radio. Carter, who was the youngest member of the group, was arguably the most popular. Nickolas gene Carter was born on January 28, 1980 in Jamestown, New York. When he was in grade school, he knew he wanted to become a singer after receiving a standing ovation for his performance of Raoul in a local version of The Phantom of the Opera. At only twelve years old, in 1992, Carter performed on the television special, New Original Amateur Hour. He also did commercials for the Money Store and the Florida State lottery. In the mid-1990s, Backstreet Boys flew Carter onto the cover of almost every teen magazine. By 2000, the group had lost its popularity. By this time, however, Carter already owned his own management company called N-Control. After taking a year off (he had been touring and doing concerts for seven years straight), the singer went back into the studio to record his first solo album. The result was 2002’s, Now or Never on Jive records. Althought the album did not do as well as expected, Carter went on his first solo tour in February 2003.
