Cameron Diaz was born and raised in San Diego, California, the daughter of a Cuban-American father and an Anglo-German mother. Diaz left home at 16 and for the next 5 years lived in such varied locales as Japan, Australia, Mexico, Morocco, and Paris. After pursuing a modelling career, she was cast in the commercially successful 1994 Jim Carrey film The Mask. She stood out as a "perfect" fiancée in the romantic comedy My Best Friend's Wedding (1997). And "There's Something About Mary" (1998) was her real break-through performance.
In 2004 an old S&M video, where Diaz appeared when she was 19 years old, was leaked out on the Internet. The video was a recording of a S&M photo session with Diaz and another girl torturing a man. In September of 2004, Diaz created some controversy after her appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show, concerning celebrities encouraging young people to vote in the upcoming Presidential election. She has been dating Justin Timberlake since early 2003.
