DMX (born Earl Simmons on December 18, 1970 in Baltimore, Maryland) is an African-American rapper/hip hop artist. He began persuing a career in hip-hop in the early 1990s, a 1994 deal with Columbia Records fell through. In the late 1990s, he formed Rap Group named Ruff Ryders consisting of Eve, Drag-On, The Lox, Swizz Beatz, Parle. He has his own record label and clothing line called Bloodline. He is now the only artist in the history of the Billboard Charts to have his first five albums debut at number one on the Billboard Charts. DMX is one of the best selling Hip-Hop artists ever. His first 4 albums have each gone at least triple platinum in the US alone, and his current CD, Grand Champ, recently went platinum. He wrote an autobiography titled "E.A.R.L.: Ever Always Real Life." He married Tashera Simmons (1999 - present) and they have 3 children. DMX also branched out into acting, appearing in the motion pictures Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds, Cradle 2 the Grave, and Never Die Alone. DMX also has a criminal history originating with an arrest in 1999 in Teaneck, New Jersey, for possesing a pistol, crack pipes and 13 pit bulls on the premises of his home. He was sentenced to make public service announcements for the Humane Society. In June of 2004, DMX was taken to central lockup in Queens and held on charges of attempted robbery, criminal impersonation and criminal mischief in the parking lot of Kennedy Airport in New York.
