Michael Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana in 1958. His father, Joseph Jackson was a guitarist. By the early 60s the older boys Jackie, Tito and Jermaine had begun performing around the city; by 1964 Michael and Marlon had joined in. It was Gladys Knight who officially brought the group to Berry Gordy's attention and by 1969 the boys were producing back-to-back chartbusting hits as Motown artists. Solo success for Michael was inevitable and by the 80s he had become infinitely more popular than his brotherly group. In the 90s the down side as an 80s pop phenomenon began to show. Michael grew terribly child-like and introverted by his celebrity. His physical appearance began to change drastically and his behavior grew bizarre. Two brief marriages, one to Lisa Marie Presley and two children produced by his second wife.
Michael's Thriller album was released in 1982, produced 7 hit singles, broke records and quickly became the world's best selling album. At the 1984 Grammy Awards, Michael was nominated for 12 awards and won a record-breaking 8 awards, 7 for Thriller and 1 for his narrative on The E.T. Storybook. In 1987, Michael released Bad and began his first solo world tour. The following year Jackson released a movie entitled "Moonwalker" and a personal autobiography titled Moon Walk. Michael also produced "Ghosts", a 40-minute short film. In 2003, Jackson made a new song, "One More Chance", written by R. Kelly.
Despite his career success, he has been dogged by media attention over allegations of child sexual abuse, which resulted in a trial and acquittal in 2005.
