Heidi Klum was born in Bergisch Gladbach, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, in June 1, 1973. She is a German supermodel, actress, fashion designer and artist.
Her career as a top fashion model and swimsuit star began when she submitted photos to a model competition hosted by Petra, a young woman's magazine. Klum won the competition, and signed with Metropolitan, the German modeling agency. After modeling in Europe for a few years to great success, she went to the United States to pursue modeling there, and met her greatest success with Victoria's Secret. In 1998, the coveted cover of Sports Illustrated's annual Swimsuit Issue, cementing her "supermodel" status.
In addition to modeling, she has appeared in several TV shows, including Spin City and Sex and the City. She had a role as an ill-tempered hair model in the movie Blow Dry, played a giantess in the movie version of Ella Enchanted and was cast as Ursulla Andress in The Life and Death of Peter Sellers.
In 2004, she became the host of a reality show called Project Runway on the U.S. TV station Bravo. Her own fashion designs are featured in the German mail-order catalog "Otto". She also has designed shoes for Birkenstock, jewelery for Mouawad, and swimsuits -featured in the 2002 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue- that were available for sale through her personal website.
She is an avid painter and has had several of her paintings appear in various art magazines in the U.S.
After being married for several years to hairdresser Ric Pipino, she had relationships with more famous men. The relation with her now ex-boyfriend, Flavio Briatore, gave her a daughter (Leni) in 2004. Since January 2005 she is engaged to singer Seal.
