Jennifer was born on July 24, 1969 in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx; and is the middle of three daughters. Her elder sister, Leslie, is a housewife who sings opera. Her younger sister, Lynda, is a DJ on New York's WKTU, a VH1 VJ., and a morning news show correspondent on New York's Channel 11. Jennifer took singing and dancing lessons from age 5. She played softball and tennis in high school and was a gymnast. After high school, she briefly worked in a law office. During this time, she continued dance classes at night. At 18, she left home because her mother was scared by her decision to pursue show business. With casting on "In Living Color" (1990) in 1990, she moved to L.A. Her career took off from her "Living Color" stint and reached new peaks with her portrayal of slain Latino singer Selena (1997) in 1997. After that, her carries raises enormously in singing and acting.
She is considered especially adept at romantic comedies. Her successful comedy movies include The Wedding Planner (2001), Maid in Manhattan (2002), Shall We Dance (2004) and Monster-in-Law (2005).
Lopez has been in two short-lived marriages. The first one, to Ojani Noa, ended in divorce in 1998. They were married on February 22, 1997. Her second marriage, during 2001-2002, was to Chris Judd, her former backup dancer. The marriage also ended in divorce.
Between marriages, from 1999 to 2001, she dated singer and producer Diddy, breaking up after a shooting incident in a New York night club. Both were arrested in connection with a nightclub shooting in December 1999, but she was released later. Their breakup was announced on February 14, 2001.
Lopez was engaged to Ben Affleck and confirmed this in November 2002, after Affleck gave her a reported $3.5 million ring. But the marriage planned for September 14, 2003 in Santa Barbara, California was called off a few days before the event. Since June 5, 2004, she has been married to singer Marc Anthony, a move that surprised most of the public. All the guests were invited to a "afternoon party", and they were never told that they were going to a wedding. Years before they married (or even became a couple), she and Marc Anthony sang a song together called "No Me Ames" which appeared on her album "On the 6."
Lopez owns a clothing line called "J. Lo by Jennifer Lopez" and Her line is the most successful of any artists' in history. She also has a perfume line out called "Glow". Next, she is planning to launch a jewelry line, hats, gloves and a scarves line.
