| April | 11 | Madonna's father-in-law, John Ritchie, has come out to tell the media that his son, Guy Ritchie, and Madonna have been having marital problems. John Ritchie talked to Closer magazine about the state of the celebrity marriage. ABC News has picked up the Associated Press story on the subject. They quote the elder Ritchie as saying, "L.A. seems to have helped them. It's easier out there because there is less pressure. They seem to have left the bumps they were having over here behind them." This followed comments made by Ritchie that the couple had retreated to Los Angeles to try to patch things up. Rumors of Madonna and Guy Ritchie's marital troubles surfaced earlier in the year. The speculation was increased when Madonna won a Brit Award for Best International Female in February, and left her filmmaking husband off of her list of thank you's.
