Gwyneth Kate Paltrow (born September 28, 1972) is the daughter of the late television producer and director Bruce Paltrow and the actress Blythe Danner. After attending the Spence School in New York City, she moved to California where she attended the University of California in Santa Barbara, majoring in Art History. She began acting in the Williamstown Theatre play "Picnic, " with her mother. Her debut film was Shout (1991) and she played in Steven Spielberg's Hook (1991) before starring in Se7en (1995) and dating her co-star Brad Pitt. It was her performance in the title role of Emma Woodhouse in Emma (1996) that led to her being offered the role of Viola in Shakespeare in Love (1998). She was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress two years later for her performance in Shakespeare in Love (1998). Paltrow gave birth to her first child, Apple Blythe Alison Martin, on May 13, 2004 with husband Chris Martin of the group Coldplay.
