The name Pearl Jam was an inside joke having to do with a hallucinogenic, peyote-laced jam that Eddie's grandmother Pearl was known for.
Pearl Jam became a key member of the Seattle grunge explosion, along with Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden.
