Britney Jean Spears is an iconic American pop music singer, songwriter, dancer and movie star. She was born in Kentwood, Louisiana on December 2, 1981, to Jamie and Lynne Spears. At age 8, Britney tried out for Mickey Mouse Club (1989), but was turned down due to her young age. This directed her to an off-Broadway show, "Ruthless", for a 2-year run as the title character. At age 11, she tried again for "The New MMC" and this time made it as a mousekateer along with today's stars (Justin Timberlake and J.C. Chasez of N*Sync, Keri Russell, Christina Aguilera and Ryan Gosling) for 1993 and 1994 seasons. Her big break came when she was signed as a Jive Recording Artist in the late 90s. With the release of her debut album, "...Baby One More Time" in early 1999, Britney became an international success and gained a new pop idol status.
In 2002, for the first time, she starred in a movie, Crossroads, which reached #2 in its first week at the box-office charts, but quickly disappeared from the charts.
On January 3, 2004, Spears married her childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander in Las Vegas, NV which was annulled fifty-five hours later. A few months after her first marriage and annullment, she announced her engagement to dancer Kevin Federline; followed by a private non-denominational marriage. on September 18, 2004 in Studio City, California. Federline has two children from his previous relatioship with Shar Jackson. Britney gave birth to her first child -- a son named Sean Preston Federline-Spears -- on September 14, 2005.
