Sela Ann Ward (born July 11, 1956 in Meridian, Mississippi) is an American actress mostly widely known for her starring and Emmy Award-winning roles in the television shows Sisters as Teddy Reed and on Once and Again as Lily Manning Sammler. Her first film role was in The Man Who Loved Women, released in 1983. Sela is the oldest of four children. Her parents were an electrical engineer and homemaker in Meridian, Mississppi. Her name is biblical meaning hallelujah or amen. She studied art and advertising at the University of Alabama, where she also was a cheerleader and was elected homecoming queen. She moved to New York to do storyboards for an advertising agency, but soon was tapped to be a model. Soon got commercials and decided to move to L.A. to seek a break in films, which she got only two weeks after arriving when she was selected to appear opposite Burt Reynolds in The Man Who Loved Women (1983).
