An older man, on hospital visits to an invalid older woman, reads aloud to her from a notebook chronicling a romance involving two men pursuing the same young woman. Eventually, it's revealed that the man is reading to his Alzheimer-afflicted wife who is the young woman in the stories. The notebooks are a chronicle of their love affair and it gradually becomes clear which of the two men is now her husband.
