Boyhood, bad luck, abuse, and, most of all, revenge sound like pedestrian subjects for a movie, but in the hands of accomplished writer and director Barry Levinson (DINER, THE NATURAL, TIN MEN, BUGSY, GOOD MORNING VIETNAM, RAIN MAN, and BUGSY) they are anything but.
